“HBR GOES TO WAR.”
Dunsmuir’s patriotic love of country, coupled with Rapoport’s love of cash, sees the company supplying HBR kits to US troops fighting in both theater’s of WWII. Known affectionately as “Hot Buttered Heaven” by soldiers in frigid Europe, and as “Unbearably Dehydrating Oppressive Hot Crap” by marines in the sweltering heat of the Pacific islands, the government contracts make Dunsmuir & Rapoport rich. The American Red Cross delivers thousands of HBR kits to Allied prisoners of war in Europe, much to the envy of Nazi soldiers who must make do with their German equivalent of Hot Buttered Rum – a concoction made of peppermint schnapps and flour packed into sausage casings.
